Monday, August 27th, 2007Tabs are done!
Sunday, August 26th, 2007Yay! I fixed a bunch of big bugs with the new tab support. Right now Version 3.1 (I skipped a few numbers because of the big new features) in translation and will come out sometime soon.
Also in the newest build is a new history method. Instead of using prefs for managing history, each browser has the history built into them. Another cool thing is that I was able to remove some KBs from the size in the new version (currently it’s at 105KB and will probably be about 107KB when the translations are done).
Oh, and one more thing, you can now define what middle clicking on links should do. The action options are either opening in a new tab, or opening in an external window
Tabs
Friday, August 24th, 2007Today, I built a tab interface into ThunderBrowse (it actually didn’t take that long to do [about 2.5 hours]). Fortunately, I had some help in doing so (saved me from having to do the whole backend myself). Bard, from SamePlace (a chat extension for Firefox, Thunderbird and the like), showed me some code that he wrote up for a future version of SamePlace.
Of course, the code in the new version of ThunderBrowse isn’t exactly the same, I had to build ontop of it and port it to my needs. In SamePlace, the tabs are positioned at the bottom. In Thunderbrowse on the top where the URL bar is.

Also tab browsing is a bit buggy. The splitters (the small light blue bars) have trouble resizing most of the time, and not all layouts (mainly vertical) will show up correctly.
Other than that, the new browsing interface works quite well.
I could and would release it now, but knowing most people, they will complain that resizing doesn’t work (which I would just say I told you so).
BTW, my birthday is tomorrow.
How to help out with ThunderBrowse
Sunday, August 12th, 2007If you love ThunderBrowse, there are several ways you can help out with the project.
Here are some general ideas of things you can do:
- Write a review on the AMO page found here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/5373
- Donate via tbit:donate
- Refer friends and others to ThunderBrowse
- Submit ThunderBrowse to a site like Download Squad, Lifehacker, or something like that.
- Talk about it in forums
- Review/mention/write about it on your blog and/or website (please email me the link to the review: general@thunderbrowse.com)
- Submit it to download sites like Filehippo, Betanews’ FileForum, etc (and even better, remind those sites of new updates)
- Become a beta tester (email general@thunderbrowse.com)
- Design a really cool logo (and if I like it, I will add it to ThunderBrowse and you will be mentioned in the credits)
