Updates 3.2.6.7 and 3.2.6.8

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

Alright, so here’s what’s changed since my last posting:

  • 3.2.6.7 has FINALLY been released on AMO.
  • I’m uploading 3.2.6.8 to AMO right now. It has support for upto RC1. Also fixes a visual bug in the wizard and a bug where uninitialized objects will halt link loading.
  • The tabs build has been updated with the fixes from 3.2.6.8.
  • IMPORTANT: The Summer of Funding thanks page will now just be a mention to the group as a whole. The reason for this change is because some people might not want to be mentioned (for various reasons) and it’s really hard to keep track. If you do want to be listed by name and you did donate during the Summer Of Funding, please email me (general[at]thunderbrowse.com).

In other news, we were also mentioned in the PC Magazine review for Thunderbird 3. Awesome!

That’s pretty much about it.

This blog post isn’t so much about ThunderBrowse as it is about me. But first, let’s get a few things out of the way.

  1. We now have a license to Postbox. This will make it easier to keep track of Postbox updates and remain compatibility.
  2. Some new donations have come in. If you donated recently, thank you very much. I’m sorry I haven’t had the time to write back to all of you (as I normally do).
  3. Tabs build is a bit halted right now. I’m not sure if I want to release it as 3.2.7 because of the number of hacks involved. I’m thinking of getting it reviewed by someone at Mozilla and see what they think.
  4. I’ve yet to make the thank you page to the Summer of Funding donors. I’ll get to it. There is a reason behind this.

It kinda sounds like I’m slacking here, but I want to let you know that I’ve been sick for most of the month with the flu. Now I have “Super Flu” (or the Swine Flu). Let me tell you, this flu is a pain in the neck. Literally.

This is why ThunderBrowse hasn’t had any updates for awhile. Sorry. Hope that I get better soon.

ThunderBrowse 3.2.6.5 and other updates

Sunday, September 20th, 2009

If you use ThunderBrowse on Postbox, you might notice that it doesn’t work anymore and the tabs build is just as broken.

Here’s what happened: Postbox developers changed how the message pane is displayed. This seems to be a reoccurring theme in Thunderbird (and messenger in general) development land.

Anyways, I fixed the problem in ThunderBrowse 3.2.6.5 and for good measure, I threw in some context based items into the special context menu for links. I’ve also included the fix in the new tabs build. TB3 Tabs for Postbox is not possible at the moment. Do not attempt to install the tabs build on Postbox. The registration flag is either not the same or not available (I didn’t have time to check).

I’ve uploaded the new tabs build (the link is the same as before) and I just uploaded 3.2.6.5 to AMO. I also fixed a small wizard bug for Postbox if you used a sandboxed copy.

BETA: Thunderbird 3 Tabs

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

I’ve made a beta version of ThunderBrowse that deals with Thunderbird 3 tabs. This build allows users to change which tab system they like. You can either have TB2 tabs (in the messagepane) or you can choose to use the TB3 tab bar.

This currently doesn’t have the thank you page for all the donors in the summer of funding (give me a break, I have the flu [I'll try to get them added as fast as I can]).

This version of ThunderBrowse may have some bugs and might cause some problems (as it is a beta). I will not be responsible if anything goes wrong.

Thunderbird 3 Tab build will only work in Thunderbird installs. It currently doesn’t work in Postbox (I’ll fix it later).

If you are ready to try the new build, click here: http://www.thunderbrowse.com/thunderblog/download-manager.php?id=12

Let me know if you have any problems with this build and please remember to email all feedback to: beta[AT]thunderbrowse.com

And yes, I do know about the tab titles showing undefined. It’s a bug in Thunderbird.

Summer of Funding over!

Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

The summer of funding is officially over and we never made it to $200 dollars. But that’s okay because since it was so close to $200, I’ll release a TB3 tabs build soon.

Normally, I would be releasing a beta now, but I’m really sick and cannot program much today. I’ll try to get it out before next week.

I’d like to take the time and thank all our donors for supporting this project, it means so much to me.

The beta build will be available on this site, with a final release scheduled for when I get enough feedback.
